Abstract: Regenerator design optimization and monitoring solutions to maximize and maintain furnace energy efficiency

In the glass industry, flame furnace thermal performance is significantly linked to regenerator efficiency, as fumes and exhaust gases losses can stand for more than 30% of the furnace’s total energy balance. 

Based on extensive and long time experience, SEFPRO, with the support of REGEN simulation software and an industrial size pilot regenerator, developed and validated since many years high performance solutions based on fused cast CRUCIFORMS® checkerpacks. This presentation will discuss how the combination of specific Cruciforms geometries can provide the highest energy recovery performance and also how SEFPRO’s  materials range can ensure long checkerpack lifetime.  A new material composed by high levels of used Cruciforms cullet will be introduced, with the aim to enhance the sustainability of our solutions. 

Moreover, with SEFPRO’s commitment to support glass industry digitalization, an original monitoring solution of regenerators has been developed. We will highlight how this new digital technology is able to maintain the regenerator’s thermal performance at the highest level  throughout furnace lifetime, allowing to keep the benefits of CRUCIFORMS® solution packing.
